The Pandoras reunite for London gig / European tour

Formed as a garage punk band in Los Angeles during the early '80s, the Pandoras debuted with a 7" EP in 1984 on the Moxie label. That same year, the group recorded It's About Time with producer Greg Shaw, but splintered later in the year.

Despite a number of well-documented lineup changes, the Pandoras released a brilliant pair of studio albums and a series of singles and EPs until they disbanded in 1991 following the tragic death of founder Paula Pierce. However, Paula's bandmates' music careers continued to flourish, most notably as members of The Muffs and Pixies.

The have recently reunited to great acclaim featuring:

  • Kim Shattuck (The Pandoras, The Muffs, Pixies): Doing Paula's job with lead vocals, screams, and lead guitar
  • Melanie Vammen (The Pandoras, The Muffs, The Leaving Trains): On Vox organ, harmonica, tambourine, and backing vocals
  • Karen Blankfeld (The Pandoras, The Rebble Pebbles): Taking over on bass and harmony vocals
  • Hillary Burton (honeychain): Drums and backing vocals.

The only UK gig of their European tour is at the Dirty Water Club @ The Shacklewell Arms, Dalston, London on Saturday 5 September with support from Dirty Water's own Oh! Gunquit and The Franklys.

The Dirty Water Club started in October 1996 in the Tufnell Park neighbourhood of north London, at a venue called The Boston. The club's name is derived from The Standells' 1966 hit 'Dirty Water' which glorifies the US city of Boston, Massachusetts.

Past performers have included The White Stripes (voted by Q Magazine as one of the top 10 gigs of all time, Mojo one of the top 30 and Kerrang one of the top 100!), The Gories, NOBUNNY, Kid Congo Powers (from the Cramps), The Fleshtones, Billy Childish, Radio Birdman, The Dirtbombs, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, The 5.6.7.8's, The Horrors and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to name just a few. The club has also seen some original '60s performers, such as The Monks, ? and the Mysterians, Kim Fowley, Sky Saxon, GONN, Michael Davis of the MC5 and more grace its stage.

Their in-house record label, Dirty Water Records, is one of the leading garage/beat/(real) R&B labels in the world.
